This year for school is definitely going to be different for everyone.
With a Worldwide Pandemic happening, we are all doing out best to keep things as "normal" as possible.
Thankfully we already homeschool so we do not have to make a choice about what to do for school.
Our biggest difference will be staying home. We usually do a lot of field trips, outings, play dates, etc.
We took more time off this last year than usual due to Abi’s surgery and did more work during the summer.
We were looking forward to getting things partially back to normal.
We had a pre-first day of school day. This is a yearly tradition that we started at the beginning of our homeschooling journey.
We cleaned out our desks top to bottom. The kids as well as myself.
Everything was out on the floor and was a mess. The kids really enjoy this messy part.
We wiped out the drawers and took out anything we were not using this year.
We go through a lot of pencils and crayons, so I always have extra on hand.
I also take advantage of the back to school sales and stock up on items I know we use a lot of.
Then we inventory what the kids still have and what they need.
On our pre-first day of school we also sharpen pencils.
I know that seems silly, but for us, we usually sharpen at least 100 pencils to start our year.
Pencils in our house are like the spoons, they always go missing.
The next day was our first official day. I always take our first day easy.
Most important thing we do is take our back to school pictures! I make different signs each year for them.
This year Ella wants to be an Astronaut and a Veterinarian. Alvin wants to be an Instruction Worker (construction) and a Firefighter.
Abigail wants to be a Veterinarian and a Doctor.
These kids have big goals and with homeschooling we can help them achieve their biggest dreams.
Then I went through with each of them the things we will be working on. Everything is set up in their binders and desks already, so this is explaining the work. I had my oldest do a training on the computer that shows her how to work the new program I got her.
I made sure that the twins understood how the day would go and how I expected them to work individually some of the time.
I have learned that with my sons needs, if I do not explain everything to his understanding, we have a rough day.
Then we did as much work as we could for that day, which was only about half of what I had planned. We just pick up where we left off the next day.
